What great couple of weeks for Asian animation news! Lots of positive things going on in this part of the world, which is a testament to the incredible talent of animation and storytelling in Southeast Asia and its neighbors!

We've said it before, and we will keep saying it forever: there is spectacular talent in this region, across the full spectrum of creative animation skills, from storytelling to leadership, to visual and audio creation.

In case you missed them, here are some of the wonderful things going on over in these parts right now!

🔥 In Thailand, Chardo Animation (that's us!) in collaboration with Pongpisit Tammakon, has received government funding for creating a teaser for our original content, Teewa. Yay! Additionally, Bang In Bangkok's Thai-themed feature film Up Chao, continues to move forward, with some forthcoming exciting news. Stay tuned!

🔥 In Indonesia, the local feature film Jumbo is enjoying some fantastic domestic success, garnering international press from Variety, and is poised for international release. We absolutely champion this news, and it can only mean positive results for animation in our region. Go Jumbo!

🔥 Related to the Philippines (our friendly, animation-veteran neighbor), Dreamworks has recently announced production of a Filipino-themed, original feature film; a rare foray into non-franchise films for DW. Double whammy of positive news with Southeast Asian themes AND original content. Read about it at Cartoon Brew. BAM!

🔥 In Korea, a couple of recent items raised our eyebrows. First, Netflix just dropped a teaser for its first original Korean film "Lost In Starlight", which looks stunning! And second, the Korean government - long a huge supporter of its animation industry - has just announced it's pumping $1 billion USD into its animation sector over the next 5 years. Hells yeah! 🔥 In Malaysia, local content LK School Daze now has over 2 million subscribers 😱 and after 1 solid year of content, continues to publish hilarious cartoons that anyone in the world can relate to. Go Malaysia!

🔥 And finally, though it's not necessarily the most recent news, Chinese feature film Ne Zha 2 continues to dominate the top spot on the charts with a 2.1 BILLION take at the box office! It's also worth noting that within the last year and a half, multiple animated films have surpassed a billion $$$ at the box office, which only goes to prove that people of all sorts LOVE animation. Whoo hoo!
