We get lots of messages and emails from artists applying for jobs, other studios looking for outsource work, sales reps for animation-related softwares/apps, etc... and we make it a point to answer everyone. ALL of them. Why?
Good question, you didn’t ask!
Putting aside spam/scam emails, or irrelevant solicitation (like attending online seminars on emerging technology for mineral excavation methods in our geo-location), more often than not, this is a genuine human being who has taken the time and energy to reach out to someone they don’t know in order find opportunities to improve their lives.
This alone, merits a round of applause in our books.
Responding takes literally SECONDS of our time and has the following positive benefits:
PLAIN, HUMAN DECENCY!
Responding is just the decent and respectful thing to do, and thus improves human behavior in general. No matter how seemingly insignificant this small action may appear, being a good person rubs off on others and makes the world a nicer place for all of us. Fact!
MOTIVATION!
Getting any response is motivating and energizing to the person reaching out. We send our fair share of messages into the ether and are THRILLED when someone writes us back, even if only to say, “Thanks, I’m not interested.” It's like a caffeine hit to keep people going forward, and we have to believe building connections and networks only improves this industry we call Animation.
SIMPLE KINDNESS!
In this current climate we need compassion with each other. Feeds heavily peppered with stories of layoffs, years of working from home (still!), and current emerging technologies are making us feel like the concept of teamwork is eroding. It can be a brief psychological respite to know there’s another human on the other end of that message who’s acknowledging its receipt.
MAYBE THEY CAN HELP US !
From the perspective of a personal benefit, a random message begs us to ask ourselves: who really is this person, who do they know, and what they will become 10 years in the future? Brushing this person off may be a lost opportunity (or not) that would have taken less than a minute of our time to set in motion.
A NEW CHUM!
Connecting with a complete stranger may just lead to having met a super cool human being, with excellent ideas and entertaining anecdotes. There's no limit on the amount of friends you can have!
Really, truly, responding to emails has nothing but positive results that cost next-to-nothing.
If anyone is feeling ignored (in their professional life), or simply looking for some industry feedback, feel free to message us for a dose of humanity. We WILL always write back.
* Now that we see this all written down, maybe we SHOULD respond to that mineral excavation technology seminar request….
