Today marks an exciting milestone for our team at Chardo Animation: the official launch of Teewa - The Fruit Doctor, our brand-new animated short series, now live on YouTube. 🥳

Teewa is a mischievous fruit doctor-in-training living in a magical jungle where everything goes wrong - and sometimes gloriously right - thanks to her impulsive experiments with enchanted fruits. But behind this vibrant and chaotic little character is a bigger story about independent creativity, adaptability, and building an audience from the ground up.

Like many animation studios, we’ve spent years developing pitches, preparing decks, and chasing funding to bring original series to life. And like many others, we’ve found that funding an animated series the traditional way is hard. Studios want fully baked IPs. Platforms want proven audiences. And everyone wants someone else to go first.

Rather than wait for permission, we decided to pivot. Instead of pitching Teewa  as a full series right out of the gate, we’re starting where we can control the outcome: on YouTube, with fast-paced, “doodle style” shorts  that showcase Teewa’s world in quick, funny, satisfying doses.

This shift came with a big decision: simplifying the design.

Our original Teewa concept had full color character designs and detailed backgrounds. Gorgeous - but not sustainable for a weekly or even monthly release schedule without a significant budget. So we leaned into a “doodle style” aesthetic: rough lines, expressive shapes, and fast poses that maintain the charm of our original look, while letting us move quickly, set against a mostly white background. It was a balancing act, but one made easier thanks to the visual brilliance of our creator, Pongpisit Tammakoon, whose art direction gives each short its signature color, texture, and visual humor. And it doesn't mean our original, detailed art is shelved, no! It now becomes our aspiration for when there's an opportunity for higher end Teewa content!

We also made a storytelling choice we’re proud of: no dialogue.

By focusing on visual storytelling, comedic timing, and expressive acting, Teewa becomes a character who speaks in actions, not words. This not only gives us creative freedom, it allows our shorts to be instantly watchable by audiences anywhere in the world.

Whether you’re in Bangkok, Busan, or Buenos Aires, Teewa’s fruit-fueled mayhem translates instantly.
